Gov Abdulrazak Wants To Replace Saraki As The New Godfather Of Kwara Politics – Olosasa
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Toyin Olosasa, has alleged that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq is seeking to position himself as the next political “godfather” in the state, amid growing political tension ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview, Olosasa claimed that the governor’s popularity has significantly declined across Kwara, warning that such a trend could negatively impact the fortunes of the ruling APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the state if not addressed.
According to him, while the APC remains widely accepted among voters, there is a “clear distinction between the party and the person,” insisting that the governor no longer enjoys the same level of public support.
Olosasa further alleged that AbdulRazaq is backing a successor, Yakubu Danladi, in what he described as a strategy to maintain influence after leaving office. He claimed the governor is mobilising resources and support structures to advance Danladi’s ambition, suggesting it reflects a desire for a “godfather–godson” political arrangement.
The APC chieftain also criticised the administration’s relationship with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, political elites, and youth groups, arguing that strained alliances within and outside the party have weakened the governor’s political standing.
On zoning, Olosasa dismissed the current push to rotate power to Kwara North as politically motivated, alleging it is being used to justify the emergence of a preferred candidate rather than to promote fairness and equity.
He further linked the current political dynamics to a long-standing rivalry between the AbdulRazaq family and the Saraki political dynasty led by Bukola Saraki. According to him, the governor is attempting to replicate the influence historically associated with the Saraki family in Kwara politics.
While acknowledging that the governor has made some efforts in governance, Olosasa maintained that his performance over the past seven years has fallen short of expectations, particularly in the areas of security and overall development.
He called for a leadership transition in 2027, stating that the governor’s performance does not justify determining his successor, and urged the presidency to pay closer attention to political developments in the state.
