NYO North Central Calls for Justice, Responsible Youth Leadership, End to Social Vices
The Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO), North Central Zone, has called for an end to jungle justice, drug abuse, cultism and other social vices as Nigeria joins the rest of the world to commemorate International Youth Day 2026.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, and signed by the Secretary of the North Central Zone, Hon. Adeleye Roy Tolorunleke, on behalf of the National Vice President, North Central Zone, Hon. Gozuk S. Sylvia, the organization said the celebration should serve as an opportunity to reflect on the challenges confronting Nigerian youths.
The NYO expressed particular concern over the reported incident of jungle justice in Plateau State, describing it as “deeply disturbing” and calling for a thorough and transparent investigation.
According to the organization, no allegation, regardless of its seriousness, should justify mob action or the denial of an individual’s constitutional right to due process.
The group urged authorities to establish the facts surrounding the Plateau incident and ensure that anyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“Justice must be based on facts, evidence and due process—not vengeance,” the organization stated.
The NYO North Central Zone also raised concerns over the increasing involvement of some youths in drug abuse, cultism, gang violence, cybercrime, gambling addiction and other destructive behaviours.
It called on government agencies, security institutions, schools, parents, religious and traditional leaders, civil society organizations and youth groups to strengthen preventive education, counselling, rehabilitation, skills acquisition and youth empowerment initiatives.
Youths Must Be Partners in Nation Building
The organization further called for greater recognition of young Nigerians as stakeholders in governance, peacebuilding, innovation and national development rather than merely as political tools during election periods.
It advocated increased investment in quality education, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, decent employment, drug-abuse prevention and rehabilitation, youth participation in governance, sports, technology, creative industries and community development.
The NYO also urged Nigerian youths to reject violence, cultism, drug abuse and criminality, warning them against allowing frustration, political manipulation or substance abuse to derail their future.
The organization stressed that building a better Nigeria requires the collective efforts of government, responsible citizens and a new generation of young people committed to integrity, peace, justice and national service.
The NYO North Central Zone reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the welfare, empowerment, rights and meaningful participation of Nigerian youths.
It urged young Nigerians to embrace the responsibility of transforming the country, saying the future of Nigeria depends not only on what young people inherit but also on the courage, capacity and character with which they shape the nation.
The statement concluded with a call for unity and responsible youth leadership as Nigeria marks International Youth Day 2026.
