Mob Beats Alleged Gas Cylinder Thief After Owner's Clever Trap In Ilorin
An angry mob apprehended and severely beat a suspected thief on Monday in Biada area of Ilorin-South Local Government Area of Kwara State. The suspect was allegedly caught after stealing a filled gas cylinder from a house.
The owner of the stolen gas cylinder lured the suspect to the area under the pretense of wanting to buy the gas cylinder, which the suspect had posted for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The owner then raised an alarm, attracting the attention of the people.
The suspect attempted to flee but was caught by the mob and subjected to a severe beating.
Speaking with our correspondent at the scene, the suspect, who claimed to come from the neighboring community in Olorushogo Gaa-akanbi area, did not deny the allegations.
According to the owner of the stolen gas cylinder, he said, "On Sunday, I discovered that my 12kg cylinder was missing and I tried every possible means to find it, but all efforts were in vain. A few hours later, someone drew my attention to a Facebook Marketplace post advertising the same cylinder I was searching for. So, I pretended to be a buyer to lure the suspect to this location before he was apprehended."
The suspect, identified as Tope, endured severe beatings and sustained grievous injuries before being handed over to the police for further investigation.
