KWASU College of Engineering Gets New Provost
The Vice-Chancellor, Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, has approved the appointment of Professor AbdulGaniyu Funsho Alabi, as Acting Provost, College of Engineering and Technology.
Until his appointment, Alabi, a Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, was the Dean, Student Affairs of the Institution.
His appointment took effect from January 2, 2018.
A letter signed by the Administrative Officer II (Teaching Staff), Mrs. Hassanat S. Mustapha, on behalf of the Registrar, Mr. Surajudeen Oyebode, stated that the appointment was in recognition of Professor Alabi’s exemplary leadership qualities and wealth of experience.
The new Provost obtained a Ph.D. degree in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA, U.S.A.; an M.Sc./DIC in Extractive Metallurgy from the Imperial College, London, U.K.; and a B.Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry, from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, Nigeria.
He has held different administrative positions at various times in the academia. He joined the services of KWASU in 2014 as a full Professor of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, and was appointed the Dean, Student Affairs in 2015.
In 2016, he was appointed Head, Department of Materials Science and Engineering, College of Engineering and Technology; a position he occupies till present.
A specialist in Extractive Metallurgy, Corrosion and Materials Development, Professor Alabi’s research interests include Corrosion Inhibition; Quality Assurance of rods used in the construction Industries; Pyro- and Hydro- Metallurgical Extraction Processes/Ore quality; and Development of Novel materials.
Under his headship, the Department of Materials Science and Engineering recently won and retained the Pan African Materials Institute (PAMI) Grant.
Professor Alabi belongs to many professional bodies locally and internationally. He is a Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE); Registered Engineer, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria; and Member, The Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS) of AIME, among others.
He has many publications to his credit in local and international peer-reviewed journals.
His recent and some selected community development activities include Chairman, Mosque Construction Committee, KWASU; Advisor, Institution of Metallurgical, Mining and Materials Engineers; President, Idigba Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Pakata, Ilorin; one-time Chief Examiner for NSE; and Chief Inspector, Engineering Regulation and Monitoring (ERM), among others.
He is happily married to Hajia Sherifat Alabi and blessed with children.

I learned that the college of engineering is organizing Compulsory SWEP in the sum of N55K for the 200level students.
It is also a 3 unit course.
I need a clarification.
