PDP Unveils Rev. Cornelius Fawenu as Kwara 2027 Deputy Governorship Candidate
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially unveiled Rev. Cornelius Olaosebikan Sunday (COS) Fawenu as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 general election.
The announcement was made on Friday by the party's State Chairman, Hon. Isa Bawa Adamu, during an official unveiling ceremony held in Kwara State.
Adamu said the emergence of Rev. Fawenu followed extensive consultations involving party leaders, stakeholders, and the PDP governorship candidate, Engr. Sulaiman Bolakale Kawu, who formally nominated him as his running mate.
According to the PDP chairman, four qualified party members were considered for the position before the party settled for Rev. Fawenu, describing the selection as a strategic decision based on merit, competence, integrity, and commitment to the development of Kwara State.
He noted that Rev. Fawenu, a cleric with more than two decades of ministry, has distinguished himself in community service, humanitarian activities, religious harmony, and political development across the state.
Adamu also revealed that Rev. Fawenu had stepped down from the Kwara South Senatorial race, despite previously emerging as the party's candidate, to accept the deputy governorship nomination. He described the decision as a demonstration of loyalty, discipline, and sacrifice in the interest of the party.
The PDP chairman disclosed that the party had commenced the constitutional process to fill the vacant Kwara South senatorial ticket and had notified the party's National Chairman accordingly.
Reaffirming the party's readiness for the 2027 elections, Adamu said the PDP remains united and committed to providing purposeful leadership focused on security, economic growth, youth and women empowerment, quality education, agriculture, and transparent governance.
He urged party members and supporters to remain united ahead of the 2027 governorship election, expressing confidence that the PDP would secure victory and provide what he described as a responsive and people-centred government for the people of Kwara State.
