Communicator Calls for Unified Response to Insecurity in Kwara
Usman Haruna, popularly known as Communicator, has called for a more unified and consistent response to insecurity across Kwara State, warning against what he described as selective concern for victims based on their location.
Speaking on the Standpoint programme on Emirates FM 98.5, Haruna commended citizens who have continued to speak out against insecurity and advocate for victims. However, he stressed the need for the same level of public attention and solidarity to be extended to communities in Kwara North and Kwara South that have endured repeated attacks, killings, and displacement.
According to him, the protest held in Ilorin over the plight of kidnapping victims in Oyo State demonstrated the compassion and concern of Kwarans for people facing security challenges. He noted, however, that many communities within Kwara State experiencing similar or even prolonged security threats have not received the same level of public advocacy and collective action.
“The issue is not about comparing victims or diminishing anyone’s suffering. Every life matters. My appeal is that we should show the same concern for communities in Kwara North and Kwara South that we show for victims elsewhere. Insecurity anywhere should concern everyone,” he said.
Haruna warned that insecurity should never be viewed as a distant problem affecting only rural communities, noting that several settlements currently under attack were once peaceful and thriving.
He further explained that one of the dangers of neglecting affected areas is that criminal elements may relocate to other communities when pressure is mounted against them, making insecurity a challenge that ultimately affects the entire state.
The civic activist urged residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to stand together in support of all victims of insecurity, regardless of location, emphasizing that a united response is necessary to confront the growing security challenges facing Kwara State.
