Declaration Of Political Alignment: "Open Letter To Our Royal Fathers" - Kwara South APC Opinion Leaders (P7)
According to the Nation’s Electoral Laws, political campaigns have not yet started as the ban has not been lifted. In the light of this, it is imperative to state that no group regardless of status should be openly canvassing for political alignment at this stage.
This brings to the attention of our enduring political group (P7 APC) of Kwara South, the recent meeting and declaration made by our prominent Royal Fathers from the Kwara South Senatorial District.
Not long ago, the APC State Party Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, made a public pronouncement that the Gubernatorial position has not been zoned to any Senatorial District. As loyal party members, this group stands firmly by the party’s declaration. This immediately raises the question: Which political party are our Royal Fathers speaking for in their declaration?
Historically, our Royal Fathers have been custodians of our cultural heritage and guardians of social integration in their communities. They are not expected to be politically biased; they are fathers to all. It was therefore surprising to see our revered Royal Fathers drifting into political alignment instead of uniting to address the pressing challenge of insecurity affecting our Senatorial District.
We strongly believe that peace, security, and tranquility across our domains are the foundation for peaceful electioneering and successful elections.
The Kwara South Opinion Leaders (P7) frown at the position taken by our Royal Fathers without consultation with their sons and daughters who are active in politics.
Even if Royal Fathers from Kwara North visited them for advocacy for their own subjects, our question remains:
“Do we not have eligible candidates for Governorship in the South?”
As it stands today, all three Senatorial Districts in Kwara State have the right and the constitutional eligibility to present candidates, as provided for in the constitutions of all political parties.
We therefore state categorically that our Royal Fathers should concentrate on addressing the burning issues of insecurity affecting their domains and leave partisan politics to the politicians.
In conclusion, We urge all members of the political class in Kwara South to set aside their differences and come together for peace, progress, accelerated socio-economic development, and overall political survival.
Up P7 (APC)! Up Kwara South! Up Kwara State! Up Nigeria!!!
