Court Upholds Esinrogunjo’s Administrative Bail

The Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin has ordered that the status quo be maintained regarding the administrative bail granted to Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate in the last Ilorin West local government elections, who is standing trial over an alleged rape case.

In a sitting held on Wednesday, the presiding judge, Justice Funsho Lawal, rejected the application by the prosecution team led by the State Director of Prosecution, M. Akande, who sought the remand of the defendant pending the determination of a preliminary objection raised by the defence.

Counsel to the defendant, J.S. Bamigboye (SAN), had earlier filed a preliminary objection challenging the competence of the charge brought before the court, arguing that due legal procedures were not properly followed.

After listening to both parties, Justice Lawal adjourned the case to November 13 for further hearing and ruled that the status quo be maintained in respect of the administrative bail currently being enjoyed by the defendant.

Esinrogunjo, a prominent Ilorin-based politician and former special assistant to the Kwara State Governor, was the PDP’s chairmanship candidate in the last Ilorin West local government elections. He has continued to deny the allegations against him, describing them as politically motivated attempts to smear his image.
