Gunmen Kill Charcoal Seller, Abduct Two Sons, Elderly Man In Kwara, Demand N30 Million Ransom
A family source told SaharaReporters on Wednesday that the incident occurred around midnight last Thursday, when the heavily armed assailants stormed the normally quiet farming settlement.
The source said the victim, Abdulganiu, was overpowered when he tried to resist the attackers. “They shot him at close range and took away his two sons, along with an elderly man in the neighborhood. It was a terrifying moment; everyone was screaming and running for safety,” the source said.
The source added that the kidnappers later reached out to the family, demanding a ransom of N30 million for the release of the captives.
“They called again today (Wednesday, October 22), insisting that we must pay quickly or they would kill them. We don’t have that kind of money. We are only struggling farmers,” the source said.
The source, who had been in Iseyin for farming activities before the incident, said he returned immediately upon hearing news of the attack. Residents of Ahun community have reportedly abandoned their farms, fearing further assaults.
“Since then, the whole community has been living in fear. People can no longer go to their farms. We have abandoned our farm produce because of the fear of being kidnapped,” he said.
The family source lamented that insecurity has crippled farming in the area, preventing many from accessing their farmlands or harvesting crops, which serve as the primary source of livelihood for residents.
People in Ahun and neighbouring villages have repeatedly called on the Kwara State government and security agencies to intervene and protect them from frequent abductions and killings by suspected herders.
They urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to deploy additional security personnel, noting that the attackers often operate freely at night without facing any resistance.
