Tension As Kwara Govt Set To Arraign PDP Chieftain Esinrogunjo Over Alleged Rape Case
Mild tension is gradually building in Kwara State following reports that the state government may soon arraign a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ilorin West Local Government chairmanship candidate, Comrade Musbau Esinrogunjo, over an alleged rape case.
While official details remain sketchy, some observers have described the development as politically sensitive, given Esinrogunjo’s rising influence within the opposition circle ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reliable sources who spoke to this medium on condition of anonymity disclosed that Comrade Esinrogunjo is expected to appear before a Kwara State High Court next Wednesday over the said allegation.
According to the sources, the case was reportedly assigned to a female judge, though there is no official confirmation from the judiciary on the details of the proceedings.
The matter reportedly originated in June 2025, following a petition submitted to the Department of State Services (DSS) by the Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation (GLOHWOC) over an alleged sexual assault involving a young woman identified as Miss Aishat Kamaldeen.
However, in a recent twist, Miss Kamaldeen publicly denied any inappropriate conduct involving Esinrogunjo, stating that he had only supported her education through financial assistance. Speaking to journalists in the company of her parents, she described the PDP stalwart as a “generous man” who had always encouraged her academic pursuit.
Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kamaldeen, also spoke to newsmen, clarifying that their daughter was not a minor and expressing displeasure at attempts to misrepresent her age or involvement.
“She was born in February 2008, and by next February she will be 18,” the father said. “We’ve spoken with her, and she confirmed there was no issue of rape or any form of sexual relationship. We just want the truth to prevail.”
Political analysts in the state have noted that the timing of the case has generated speculation, considering Esinrogunjo’s growing popularity within the Ilorin West political landscape.
As of press time, efforts to reach the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaiye, and the Commissioner for Justice for official comments were unsuccessful.
Legal experts, however, have urged the public to allow the judicial process to take its course, emphasizing that all parties remain innocent until proven otherwise.
