Fire Razes 22 Shops At Kara Market In Kwara
Fire has destroyed some 22 shops and six containers at Kara Market in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The fire, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday at about 1:35 AM, was confirmed in a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle.
According to the statement, firefighters arrived at the scene to discover that out of 323 shops in the market, the blaze affected 22 plank shops and six container shops.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the fire was caused by negligence. One of the shop occupants reportedly failed to properly extinguish a cooking fire, which later reignited and spread to nearby shops.
The Kwara State Fire Service said its timely intervention prevented the inferno from escalating, saving hundreds of other shops and properties from destruction.
The service urged residents to adopt safety measures and handle fire with caution, particularly in markets where combustible materials are common.
