Security: Kwara NYO Lauds New Military Battalion in Kwara South, Reaffirms Support for Peace
The Nigeria Youth Organization (NYO), Kwara State Chapter, has commended the Federal Government for approving the establishment of a new military battalion in the Kwara South Senatorial District, describing the development as a significant milestone in strengthening security and addressing rising security concerns in the region.
This was contained in a press statement issued in Ilorin on Friday and jointly signed by the State Chairman of the organization, Comrade Ayorinde Yekini, and the State Publicity Secretary, Hammed Adedayo Said.
The youth body praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the military formation, noting that the deployment would play a vital role in curbing criminal activities, safeguarding lives and property, and restoring lasting peace across border communities and major transit routes within Kwara South.
The organization also applauded Kwara State Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for his sustained commitment to improving security through continuous engagement with security agencies and persistent advocacy for increased federal security presence in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Comrade Yekini said: "The approval of this military battalion represents a crucial step forward in addressing the security challenges confronting Kwara South. We sincerely appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for listening to the concerns of our people and taking decisive action."
He added: "Insecurity has negatively affected agriculture, education, commerce, and other socio-economic activities in the district. We are optimistic that the presence of this battalion will restore confidence, enable farmers to return safely to their farmlands, encourage investment, and stimulate economic growth across the region."
Reaffirming the commitment of young people to sustaining peace, the NYO Chairman emphasized that Kwara youths would continue to support security agencies through intelligence sharing, community engagement, and other lawful means.
"Security is a collective responsibility. Kwara youths are ready to work hand in hand with the military, the police, other security agencies, and community leaders to ensure that every part of the state remains peaceful and secure," he said.
The organization further appealed to residents of Ifelodun, Offa, Oyun, and other neighbouring local government areas to cooperate with security operatives by providing timely and credible information that would assist in preventing criminal activities and ensuring successful security operations.
According to the statement, the establishment of the battalion is expected to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies, strengthen intelligence gathering, improve rapid response to emergencies, and further consolidate peace and stability across Kwara South and the state at large.
The Nigeria Youth Organization reaffirmed its unwavering support for all government initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property, expressing confidence that sustained collaboration between the government, security agencies, and local communities would deliver lasting peace and development.
