Protesters Loot Indian Hemp, Drugs From Kwara NDLEA Office
The Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has disclosed how protesters in Lafiagi broke into the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) office and looted illicit drugs, including Indian hemp.
Speaking to the press on Sunday, Ojo described the act as a targeted attack on the agency’s exhibit room, carried out under the guise of a public protest.
“Those who participated in what even camouflaged as a protest actually targeted the palace of the Emir of Lafiagi, who has consistently stood against the menace of illicit drugs in the community,” the Commissioner stated.
He added that the invaders have been profiled, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.
“They burgled the exhibit room and stole Indian hemp, among other exhibit drugs. But we are on their trail and will bring them to justice,” he affirmed.
Daily Trust reports that the violent protest erupted in Lafiagi, Edu Local Government Area, over worsening insecurity and repeated cases of kidnappings in the area.
Witnesses said the protest, which started peacefully, escalated after some youths were arrested by NDLEA operatives who accused them of drug-related offenses. This triggered a mob action during which the NDLEA office was set ablaze and three of its vehicles destroyed.
Parts of the Emir of Lafiagi’s palace were also vandalized before security operatives repelled the attackers.
