Kwara First Lady Flags Off Integrated Measles, Polio Vaccination
The First Lady of Kwara State and Founder Ajike People Support Center, Ambassador Dr Olufolake AbdulRazaq has assured the people of the Kwara state of the commitment of the present administration at ensuring that necessary vaccines get to eligible children at the appropriate time.
Ambassador AbdulRazaq gave this assurance at flag-off of Measles and Polio Vaccination at Shao in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to her, "this is apart from all the other interventions in other areas of Primary Health Care Services; nutrition, Antenatal Care, treatment of common disease and injuries and commended the Kwara State government for recruiting health workers in hundreds within the last two years and increased the renumeration of health workers to be comparable to what obtains at Federal Civil Service."
She added that to complement the efforts of government her office and the Ajike People Support Center will continue to intensify sensitization and awareness to ensure that no child is left behind in the state.
The First Lady commended efforts of the Kwara State Primary Health Care Service providers and their staff across the 16 LGAs of the State, implored them not relent in efforts and other necessary interventions meant to ensure Kwarans enjoy quality healthcare as part of dividends of democracy irrespective of their location.
Ambassador Abdulrazaq therefore, enjoined parents and caregivers to make their children available for the Polio and Measles Vaccines, other vaccines and child survival interventions in the nearest health facility or outreach sites to access these services.
Earlier at the event to flag off of the immunization exercise,the chairman house committee on health and environment hon. Rasak Owolabi urged mothers to present their children for immunization while praying to God to keep our children.
The commissioner of health Dr. Raji Rasak commend the state government for the support the health sector is receiving and pledged to ensure that the people of kwara gets the best of health care services.
While speaking at the event the Emir of Shonga His Royal Highness Dr. Haliru Yahaya thanked the state government and commended the first lady for coming out to encourage mothers and guardians to present their children and wards for the immunization exercise.
The Executive Secretary Kwara State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Nusirat Elelu said although the two diseases are vaccine preventable they still constitute major threats to children under five years of age.
The State Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency also thanked the first lady Ambassador Olufolake AbdulRazaq for working closely with the agency.
She further announced that as part of the Kwara State First Lady commitment to maternal and child health, a Maternal and Neonatal Child Health Week will be conducted next year to create awareness and boost health of mother and children.
