KWASU VC Vows To Promote A World Class Enabling Environment For Learning, Teaching And Research

The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor Kwara State University, Professor Muhammed Mustapha Akanbi has stated his commitment to making KWASU an enviable Institution for learning, teaching and research.

He made this known while delivering his maiden address at the handing over ceremony and maiden meeting with Principal Officers, Deans and Provost of Colleges on 6th of April ,2020 at KWASU Conference Center, Sango.

The University helmsman said no effort will be spared in the course of turning the University into a world class Institution. “As Vice-Chancellor, my aspiration is to make KWASU a place of opportunity and inspiration capable of attracting the most talented staff and student from within Nigeria and internationally. My dream is to promote a world class enabling environment for learning, teaching and research. An environment that is conducive for intellectual inquisitiveness and enhances knowledge acquisition for future application in industries, business and life.”

Professor Muhammed expressed his intention to be the driving force of the institution, shaping the future of the institution by providing strong intellectual, innovative, team leadership and strategic direction.

He stressed that he will ensure financial sustainability and maximize the efficient use of University resources and facilities, taking advantage of opportunities to grow income while managing risk effectively.

"I shall engage in significant fund raising initiatives, maximizing income streams from philanthropic and coporate sources. Furthermore, i intend to leverage on various networks in research funding circles, industries, government and higher education nationally and internationally” he added.
 
Professor Muhammed noted that in the drive to move the institution forward, his administration will focus on four essential areas which are provision of a conducive learning environment for students, by promoting teaching methods that are student centric through incorporating suggestions for student periodically via a well-developed feedback mechanism, enrich the teaching and learning process through the development of ICT facilities and an establishment of an advanced computing center, ensure digitization of the central library, and an upgrade of the sport facilities.   

Professor Akanbi expressed his resolve to promotion of policy oriented research and collaboration with government and industry “it is our believe that recent output emanating from the University must impact positively on our society. Consequently, the institution will be promoting cutting edge researches that are socially relevant to address critical needs in education, healthcare, safety, security management, information system, engineering and technology in Kwara State”.he noted.

Speaking on Community development and entrepreneurial initiatives the Vice Chancellor opined that,” we know that the University was founded to be a center for community development and entrepreneurship, we will therefore engage in activities that will validate the objective by deepening the University's commitment to community engagement through corporate social responsibile activities.”   

The Vice Chancellor added that transforming KWASU into a financially sustainable institution, building partnership, collaborations and relationships with organizations, institutions, government and individuals through a memorandum of understanding, mobilizing support trough fund raising activities from key stake holders will be priority.

He however called for the exhibition of high level of professionalism and support from all to archive success, promising to work diligently in other to sustain the current tempo of development in the Institution.

Also speaking at the occasion the former Acting Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Sakah Mahmud, expressed the desire of all staff of the Institution to work with the new VC to move the University forward.
