Kwara Govt Appeals To College of Arabic Workers To Call-off Strike

The Kwara State Government has appealed to staff of  Kwara State College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin, to call-off strike in the interest of their students and the state in general.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications to Kwara State Governor, Dr Muideen Akorede made this call on Monday while featuring on a live radio in Ilorin.

Akorede said the state government  last week released N125million as subvention to tertiary institutions and arrangement is ongoing to meet up with others demand of the workers.

The strike according to the management of the college was to ensure that the government release N98million for accreditation of courses.

 He noted that such money cannot be released at once with the present economic crisis.

"Students should be considered before embarking on strike because time lost cannot be regained but the demand of the College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies will be met." He explained.

Speaking on subvention payment to the college , Akorede said the government has decided to pay subvention quarterly against monthly payment as result of inadequate finances in the state.

On the level of potholes on roads in Ilorin metropolis , the Governor's Spokesman said the roads were affected as result of financial crisis and the focus of the government on civil servant salaries.

Akorede however reiterated that Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is commitment to his administration operation "No Pothole Agenda", adding that the agency in charge will fix the roads soon.

He hinted that the state governor has approved fund for renovation of Kwara State Stadium Fence and other projects affected by the last rainstorm in Ilorin and its environs.
