Kwara Rebirth Ambassadors Group Visits INEC Office, Pledge Support On Voters Education

Kwara Rebirth Ambassadors, paid a courtesy visit to the INEC headquarter in Ilorin yesterday.

In his opening remarks, Amb Abdulrasheed Akogun, the coordinator of the group while introducing members of the delegation highlighted the actions the group has taken to ensure proper sensitization of prospective voters; He said "we have Radio jingles that enjoins people to get their PVC and use it judiciously which is played on Sobi FM five times daily".

Amb Akogun further lamented on the challenges faced by prospective voters in the course of registration. He said " There is a town known as Adena in Kaiama Local Government which is 9 hours to the registration centre, the prospective voters need to travel the long distance to be able to register", he thereby urge for decentralization of the registration points and calls for regular shifting of the venues.

Akogun added that Kwara Rebirth Ambassadors is ready to support the commission to ameliorate the challenges and also spread the message of Voters education to the nooks and crannies of the state, most especially the rural areas.

In his welcome address, Mr Paul Atser, The Administrative Secretary of INEC Kwara State appreciated the stride of Rebirth Ambassadors, he said "We needs NGOs to partner with in order to ease our job". Mr Paul said " Indeed, there's a gap between the INEC and the people, hence the need to engage independent groups, to spread the message across ".

He talked about the readiness of the commission to curb the menace being faced at the registration centres, noting that the commission has started Mobile centres for the first quarter of this year and the time table for area to be covered are publicize on media platforms. Also, he said the commission has started its call in radio program on Royal FM and plans to publicize their venue designation on the commission's website.

Concluding his remarks, Mr Paul enjoins the group to be steadfast in sensitizing the masses particularly the rural areas where most people aren't on media and promised to treat all the issues raised holistically.
