Tension in Kwara APC as Gov. Abdulrazaq Allegedly Make a U-Turn Against Seriki, Favors Yakubu Danladi

Political developments within the ruling All Progressives Congress in Kwara State have reportedly taken a dramatic turn following indications that Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has shifted his political support from businessman and APC chieftain Yahaya Seriki to the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, in what observers describe as a last-minute political maneuver ahead of the 2027 governorship permutations.

Sources within the party disclosed that the governor’s camp has recently intensified consultations around the emergence of Danladi as a preferred successor, a move believed to have unsettled supporters of Yahaya Seriki, who had long been speculated to enjoy strong backing within influential APC circles in the state.

The alleged political realignment has sparked fresh conversations among stakeholders across the three senatorial districts, with party loyalists and political observers interpreting the development as part of broader strategic calculations aimed at consolidating internal party control ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Although neither Governor AbdulRazaq nor Yahaya Seriki has publicly commented on the reported shift, insiders claim the decision may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations among key power blocs within the party.

Meanwhile, supporters of Yakubu Danladi-Salihu have continued to project the Speaker as a loyal party figure with legislative experience and strong grassroots connections, qualities they believe position him favorably within the APC structure.

Political analysts, however, warn that any perceived exclusion of major stakeholders could trigger internal tensions within the party if not carefully managed through dialogue and consensus-building.

As permutations ahead of the 2027 governorship race continue to gather momentum, the latest development is expected to reshape alignments within the Kwara APC and influence future political calculations across the state.
