“If There Is Any Anointed Candidate, It Should Be Me” - Kwara Speaker Declares Ahead of 2027 Guber Race

Political tension may be quietly exploding within the Kwara APC following a bold and controversial declaration by the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi Salihu, over the 2027 governorship ticket.

Speaking after the APC screening exercise in Abuja, Danladi openly declared that if there is any “anointed” candidate for the Kwara governorship race, it must be him, a statement many political observers are already interpreting as a direct signal to power brokers within the ruling party.

“If there is any anointed candidate, my prayer is that I should be the one,” he said confidently.

The declaration has already triggered whispers of an underground succession battle and possible cracks within the APC camp, especially as several loyalists and political heavyweights are reportedly eyeing the Government House ahead of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s exit.

In a move seen by critics as a subtle challenge to party hierarchy, the Speaker also dismissed talks of moving to the National Assembly, insisting that his seven years controlling the state legislature have already prepared him for executive power.

“You can also be in the itinerary of an executive,” he argued, while defending his ambition to move from the Assembly complex straight into the Government House.

Political analysts say the “anointed candidate” comment could deepen speculations about alleged endorsement politics, favoritism, and internal power alignment already heating up behind closed doors in Kwara APC.
