APC Primaries: Tension in Ekiti LGA After Incumbent Chairman, Aide Allegedly Beat Up Former Chairman
Party primaries in Ekiti Local Government Area turned chaotic on May 16, 2026, following an alleged physical altercation involving the Executive Chairman of Ekiti LGA, Hon. Wale Awelewa, and former council chairman, Hon. Dele Abiodun.
According to eyewitnesses, Hon. Dele Abiodun responded to an invitation from Chief J.B. Ayeni, a community elder and ward leader. Upon Abiodun’s arrival, he was allegedly attacked by the sitting chairman and his aide, who reportedly grabbed him and struck his head against his vehicle in the presence of stakeholders, including Chief J.B. Ayeni.
Eyewitnesses further explained that Hon. Abiodun was later rescued by others at the scene, after which the matter was reported to the Nigeria Police Force at the Osi Division.
As of press time, neither Hon. Wale Awelewa nor Hon. Dele Abiodun had issued a public response to the allegations. Efforts to reach the Ekiti LGA Secretariat for comment were unsuccessful, while the Kwara State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
The incident has heightened tension in Ekiti LGA, with community members calling for calm and a thorough investigation.
