PDP Condemns Fresh Bandit Attack on Woro Community, Kaiama LGA
.....Urges government to deploy humanitarian aids
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State condemns the latest gruesome attack carried out by criminal bandits on Woro town, a community in Kaiama Local Government Area, in the late hours of yesterday.
According to credible reports, more than ten persons, mostly youths , including a former Students’ Union President of a tertiary institution in Kwara State, were among those brutally killed during the attack, while several houses were set ablaze by the assailants.
The Kwara PDP, in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, describes the attack as a despicable, inhuman and callous act of wickedness that no human should ever inflict on fellow human beings.
This incident is yet another stark reminder that Kwara State requires far more than propaganda, photo-ops and hollow sympathy messages to defeat insurgency and banditry. What the state urgently needs is decisive, practical and people-oriented leadership.
Our party views the official communication issued by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as merely cosmetic and completely lacking in hope or concrete reassurance for the wounded victims and the devastated community.
A responsible and responsive government would have immediately ordered the deployment of humanitarian relief and medical emergency services to assist the victims and help the community cope with this painful tragedy.
Unfortunately, the governor’s statement is riddled with self-adulation and a distorted portrayal of the security situation in Kwara State.
Let it be clearly stated that Kwara is far from overcoming insecurity and banditry, whether in the northern or southern parts of the state. As at press time, citizens are still being kidnapped and villages continue to suffer attacks, despite repeated claims by the government that insurgents are bein decimated by ongoing military operations
We therefore call on the Kwara State Government to immediately deploy humanitarian aid, relief materials and medical support to Woro community and other affected victims to help them navigate the trauma and destruction caused by this attack.
We also call on security agencies, in the interest of justice and public safety, to intensify efforts to track down these criminal elements and ensure they are brought to book for the evil they have unleashed on innocent and defenseless people.
While mourning with the people of Woro and the entire Kaiama community over this heartbreaking development, the Kwara PDP extends our condolences to His Royal Highness, Alh Omar shehu muazu ,Kiyaru II, the the Emir of Kaiama. We pray that Almighty Allah grants eternal rest to the departed, comforts the bereaved families, and grants our leaders the wisdom and sincerity to confront the insecurity challenge with the seriousness and urgency it deserves, so that Kwara State can once again return to its long-standing tradition of peace and safety.
