LG Autonomy: Tinubu Threatens Governors With Executive Order
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has threatened state governors that he may be forced to issue an Executive Order to directly release federal allocations due to the local government areas across the country.
Tinubu gave the warning on Friday during the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President who was not happy with many state governors who still refused to release the local government funds despite the Supreme Court judgement, warned that if they fail to comply with the ruling giving financial autonomy to the local government, he may be forced to issue an Executive Order.
Speaking directly to the governors, members of the National Working Committee and other stakeholders, the President said, the Supreme Court judgement should be implemented, saying, “If you wait for my Executive Order.., because, I have the knife, I have the yam, I will cut it.”
He noted that he was just showing understanding with the governors. “Otherwise, if you don’t start to implement it, FAAC after FAAC, you will see.”
The President also disclosed that his presidency was ordained by God.
Reflecting on the challenges he faced during the election, Tinubu said the election period coincided with food shortages, the currency redesign policy and widespread fuel scarcity that led to long queues at petrol stations.
He lamented that Nigerians endured significant hardship, with some unable to afford a single meal a day, stressing that the challenges were not insignificant but part of the difficult journey to the polls.
“I faced obstacles on my path to the presidency, but God brought us here. I am a symbol of that because, without Him, I wouldn’t be here. Governor Buni and Governor Uba Sani knew the obstacles on my path to the presidency. There was currency redesign chaos, and endless queues at filling stations. People died from hunger due to cash scarcity, all for one election,” Tinubu said.
