193 Ward Councillors Call on Kwara Governor to Address Welfare Concerns
A coalition of 193 ward councillors in Kwara State has formally appealed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to urgently address long-standing welfare issues affecting elected councillors across the state.
In an open letter addressed to His Excellency and dated 19 December 2025, the councillors expressed deep disappointment over what they described as “neglect and oversight” regarding their entitlements. The group, which operates at the grassroots level to implement government policies and programmes, said that despite dedicated public service, they have yet to receive critical allowances and car loan benefits owed to them.
The councillors stated that these delayed payments have placed many in difficult financial situations, hampering their ability to effectively serve their constituents. They urged the governor to intervene and ensure that overdue allowances and vehicle support are released without further delay to enhance their operational capacity.
“We are committed to serving the people of Kwara State, but we need the necessary support and resources to do so,” the letter read.
The appeal comes amid ongoing debates around public sector welfare in the state, including recent praise from the Nigeria Labour Congress for the governor’s approval of salary increases for civil servants.
No official response has yet been issued by the Kwara State Government regarding the councillors’ letter.
