The Sarkin Gobir and Madawaki of Ilorin Emirate, Alhaji Yakubu Garba Gobir, has congratulated Professor Khalilullahi Uthman Gbodofu of the University of Ilorin on his recognition as a laureate of the 2025 Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding.
Professor Gbodofu received the prestigious global honour in Doha, Qatar, where he was decorated by the Crown Prince of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Al Thani. The award, widely regarded as one of the world’s foremost prizes celebrating excellence in translation and cross-cultural scholarship, places him among distinguished international academics.
Alhaji Gobir described the recognition as a proud moment for Ilorin and Nigeria, noting that it reinforces the city’s longstanding reputation as a hub of intellectual excellence.
“For a scholar from Ilorin to be recognised on such a prestigious global platform confirms what we have always known that our home remains a centre of intellectual excellence and that our academics can compete favourably with their peers anywhere in the world,” he said.
He congratulated Professor Gbodofu and his family on the honour, praying that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to guide his path and bless his scholarly contributions.
“This honour is well-deserved. May Allah continue to strengthen him, elevate him, and bless his efforts. Ameen."
