#ErukuAttack: Kwara PDP Condemns Attack; Accuses Gov. Abdulrahman Of Ignoring Earlier Security Warning
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State is deeply saddened by the tragic attack on worshipers at CAC Oke Isegun, Eruku, in Ekiti Local Government Area, where innocent citizens were brutally killed and several others abducted by bandits during church service on Sunday. This sad incident has thrown the community into mourning and further exposed the glaring collapse of security under the watch of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party berated Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his belated and nocturnal visit to the grieving community. The PDP noted that, just as witnessed during the Oke-Ode massacre, where the Governor reportedly waited to receive a call from Abuja before showing up, he has once again demonstrated the same disturbing pattern of indifference by waiting the entire day before paying a late-night visit to Eruku—long after the community had counted its losses and mourned their dead alone.
As a party, we believe this attitude stands in sharp contrast to what responsible leadership looks like. For instance, in Kebbi State, when a school was attacked on Monday, Governor Nasir Idris, within two to three hours, mobilized his full cabinet to the scene, engaged parents, assured stakeholders, and vowed immediate action to rescue abducted students. That is leadership; that is governance.
Despite the magnitude of trauma in Eruku and the number of citizens currently held in captivity, Governor Abdulrahman only crept into the town at nightfall, offering neither comfort nor clear plans for rescue operations. Even in the press statements released by his media handlers, not a single word was dedicated to explaining how the abducted victims would be rescued. Instead, he chose to praise the President—an unnecessary political stunt at a time his people are bleeding.
How does a Governor find the voice to praise anyone when non-state actors are killing and abducting citizens under his watch? This is not leadership; it is irresponsibility at its peak.

Our party is convinced that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is not giving insecurity in Kwara State the seriousness it deserves. Rather than focusing on strengthening security, he appears more preoccupied with using taxpayers’ money to fund luxury, foreign trips, and personal comfort for himself and his family. The rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and violent crimes in Kwara today is a direct consequence of a government that has abandoned its primary responsibility of protecting lives.
We have it on good authority by that stakeholders from Eruku community had repeatedly alerted the state government about suspicious movements of criminals long before this attack, yet nothing was done. Even more embarrassing is the fact that residents had to repair the rickety police patrol vehicle used by officers in the town—an unacceptable burden on a community already living under fear of armed invaders.
Furthermore, the Kwara PDP strongly condemns the increasing tendency of the state government to suppress information about insecurity. We have it on good authority that traditional institutions are being pressured and threatened to prevent their youths from reporting criminal incidents happening in their domains. During the Commissioner of Police’s visit to Eruku today, some individuals—acting on instructions—attempted to silence grieving families and freelance journalists trying to speak on the tragedy. This is a shameful attempt to cover up failure and manipulate public perception.
Let it be clear: silencing victims will not make insecurity disappear. Suppressing voices only exposes this government’s lack of sincerity and seriousness in addressing the crisis. No responsible government threatens its citizens for crying out in pain, and no leader with empathy commands traditional rulers to intimidate bereaved families seeking justice and safety.
The Kwara PDP stands with the people of Eruku at this dark moment. We commend the bravery and sacrifice of local vigilantes who confronted the attackers and are stillin the forest searching for the abducted victims ; we sympathize with all members and authority of Christ Apostolic Church in Eruku and Kwara State and urge them to continue to be strong in their faith and prayer for the safe and quick return of their brethren held in captive .
We call on the Federal Government, security agencies, and all stakeholders to intervene decisively and ensure the immediate rescue of those abducted. Kwara cannot continue to run on autopilot while its citizens live in fear.
