Bandits Kidnap APC Chairman’s Wife and Daughter in Kwara

A chilling attack unfolded late Sunday night when armed bandits stormed the Sakpefu community in Patigi Local Government Area, abducting the wife and daughter of the local APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Swasun.

According to eyewitness accounts, around 11:00 p.m., a five-man gang of gunmen scaled the chairman’s perimeter fence and discharged gunshots into the air to terrify residents before forcing their way into the family residence. They seized Hajia Fatima and her daughter Amina, whisking them away to an undisclosed location.

Efforts by local vigilantes to rescue the victims were initiated but proved ineffective, as the assailants vanished before their arrival.

Prior incidents have shed light on the precarious security situation in the region. In recent days, the Patigi axis saw further mayhem in Esanti and Lalagi villages drivers killed and residents abducted—and a violent incursion into Shagbe, Ifelodun LGA, which resulted in fatalities and more kidnappings. Distress calls by residents went unanswered for hours.

Efforts to obtain official commentary from the Kwara State Police Command have yet to yield results. Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo indicated he had not been briefed, underscoring the urgency for a coordinated and visible law enforcement response.

Residents and community leaders have rallied, issuing an urgent plea to the state government and security agencies to intensify operations aimed at locating and rescuing the kidnapped victims and curbing the surge in banditry.
