KWASIEC Initiates Partial Payment for Ad-Hoc Staff Less Than 24 Hours After Media Report
Less than 24 hours after Kwara Reporters highlighted the plight of ad-hoc staff who participated in the September 21 local government elections, the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) has reportedly begun payments to some affected workers.
The report, which detailed workers' frustrations over delayed stipends and repeated visits to KWASIEC’s Ilorin office, appears to have prompted the commission to take action.
Speaking to Kwara Reporters, one of the unpaid workers expressed cautious optimism. “I want to believe this prompted today’s payment, but only a few payments have been made so far. I am still waiting to receive my own stipend,” the worker said.
While some ad-hoc staff confirmed receiving their N40,000 stipends, the majority remain unpaid, fueling continued dissatisfaction. “It’s a relief to see payments have started, but the process still feels selective and unclear. Those of us waiting are growing increasingly anxious,” another staff member noted.
KWASIEC has yet to issue a formal statement addressing the ongoing concerns or provide a timeline for completing all payments.
The partial payments, though welcomed by some, have left many others still waiting for their dues. Affected workers are calling on KWASIEC to expedite the remaining payments and ensure transparency in handling the matter.
This development underscores the power of media advocacy in holding institutions accountable but also highlights the need for sustained efforts to ensure equity and efficiency in public administration.
