PDP Condemns Abdulrahman, Kwara APC's Sham LG Primaries As Mockery Of Democracy
..Says Otoge Comrades who pretentiously decried "Mi Fun E" are now condemned to silence under "Mi Gba E" political robberies
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has made a mockery of the recent primary elections organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as nothing short of a charade and an affront to democratic principles. Under the leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the APC has orchestrated one of the worst displays of electoral fraud in the history of our state.
In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP in Kwara state, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party lambasted the APC and Governor Abdulrahman for elevating fraud over political integrity. It also described the APC primaries as a normalization of abnormals where all principles of democracy were mocked in every sense.
The PDP also urged Alhaji Samari and all those appointed to conduct the APC primaries to go for seven days of fasting and prayers for thorough spiritual cleansing of their sins against democracy.
"It is noteworthy that the primaries were fraught with confusion. Initially, the APC announced a consensus mode, ordering all aspirants to refrain from talking or complaining about whoever the governor chose to impose on the party.
In an attempt to copycat the fantastic primaries conducted by the PDP across the state, culminating in stage-managed primary elections by the APC to deceive its members, who were unaware that the results had been predetermined.
"It is unfortunate to see the Otoge advocates of 2019, who deceived Kwarans into believing they hated the Saraki leadership due to what they termed "MI FUN E" (Imposition of candidates), now surrendering under the most condemnable political fraud in Kwara's history which can be described as "MI GBA E" (Duping/Robbing of candidates), as demonstrated by Governor Abdulrahman and the APC.
"It is quite unfortunate that those who criticized past administrations for lesser wrongs are now silent on this evil and are even celebrating it because they have been boxed into tight corners.
"For instance, in Oke Ero Local Government, where APC claimed to have organized direct primaries, three aspirants contested for the chairmanship positions with their scores presented as:
Olusona Bunmi (2,814 votes),
Babatunde Taiye (2,319 votes), and
Fadipe James (932 votes).
Even though these figures were fabricated without any actual voting, the APC had gone overboard by declaring Fadipe James, the man with the least votes among the trio as the winner of its primaries.
"Similar irregularities occurred in Ilorin South, particularly in Akanbi Ward 3, where an aspirant with the least votes was declared the winner over those who genuinely won the elections.
"The situation in Kwara North was even worse, with KWASIEC reportedly adjusting its timetable just to accommodate certain individuals linked to the Speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi, whom the commission waited for until they returned from the Hajj pilgrimage. This is a very sad turn of events in Kwara, happening under the government of the celebrated Otoge advocates.
"We call on Alhaji Samari and his committee members, who organized this flawed exercise, to undertake seven days of fasting and prayer for spiritual reflection and atonement for their actions against Kwara and the principles of democracy.
"It is most regrettable to witness Otoge advocates who once decried imposition of candidates now embrace the most condemnable political fraud in Kwara's history. If the APC cannot conduct a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary election for its members, how will it conduct itself as the ruling party in the September 21 local government elections staring at us?
"Our party, therefore, calls on all victims of APC/Governor Abdulrahman robberies to immediately seek political asylum in PDP, a party that has shown leadership in all respects and is ready to accept them with all sense of enthusiasm.
"The Kwara PDP stands firm in our genuine democratic principles and urges all well-meaning Kwarans to reject this mockery of democracy by dusting their PVCs for the forthcoming local government elections and be fully ready to stamp out the party that has stagnated the state for the past five years, bringing untold hardship and killings of people's means of livelihoods with unreasonable demolitions of shops and business centers across the state capital", the party submitted.
