Policewoman Pours Hot Water on Colleague, Burns Her Arm, Chest
Confidence Bobmanuel has been writhing in pain and battling with what appears to be second-degree burns Chika Amadi, her colleague, inflicted on her.
Both women work as police officers attached to the Abonnema police division in Rivers State, but living next to each other in the police barracks did not help strengthen their relationship.
FIJ gathered that on Wednesday, Chika waited at Confidence’s doorstep with a bucket of scalding water, and when the unsuspecting police officer stepped out, Chika bathed her with it, causing her skin to peel off.
Neighbours and friends rushed the injured Confidence to the police clinic, and she has since been receiving treatment. They claimed to have no idea of Chika’s reasons.
Pictures Confidence’s friends provided to FIJ show severe burns on her right arm, breast and chest areas.
Sources privy to the matter told FIJ that both women did not see eye to eye.
“Only three weeks ago, Chika hit Confidence’s leg with a stick, and it injured her,” a source told FIJ. “Before then, Chika had accused Confidence of causing her miscarriage.
“There was no baby there in the first place. The doctors in the police clinic said Chika came for a malaria test, so we were surprised to hear something about a miscarriage. She just always fought Confidence.”
Sources said it was not the first time Chika had been involved in altercations. “She was transferred to the division after she had disciplinary issues at her last place of assignment,” one told this reporter.
FIJ was unable to confirm these claims, as Chika was unreachable as of press time. There were speculations she was in temporary detention.
FIJ called Hassan Ibrahim, the DPO of the division, but his number was unresponsive. As of press time, he had not responded to our text message.
FIJ also called Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, but she requested a text message. She called FIJ back to say she had confirmed the incident, and the police provost would be investigating the matter while Chika has been transferred to the headquarters for detention.
