Kwara PDP Condemns Barbaric Killing of Olukoro of Koro, Abduction of His Family Members
....Berates Gov Abdulrahman's continuous sojourn in Abuja despite rising insecurity in the state
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has vehemently condemned the gruesome killing of a revered traditional ruler and Retired Army General, His Royal Highness, Oba Segun Aremu, the Olukoro of Koro in Ekiti Local Government Area, and the abduction of his wife and two family members by an unidentified gunmen.
In a statement released by Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the Party expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity in Kwara communities, noting that Kwara is gradually sloughing its peaceful status to a volatile state.
"The gruesome killing of Oba Segun Aremu and the abduction of his wife and other family members by yet-to-be-identified gunmen is a stark reminder of the deteriorating security situation in our state.
"The PDP is disheartened and shocked by this unfortunate incident and extends our heartfelt condolences to the Koro community, Ekiti people, and the traditional institution in the state.
"Our Party stands in solidarity with Koro community home and abroad at this difficult time and calls on security agencies to intensify efforts at rescuing those abducted unhurt from captivity while bringing the perpetrators of this dastard act into timely justice.
The party is equally dismayed by the apparent cold attitude of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who was given the mandate to secure the lives and properties of Kwara but chose to govern the state from far Abuja hiding under the guise of NGF chairman when his own state is boiling with insecurity and violence killings of citizens.
"Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq has failed to protect the people of Kwara, including traditional institutions across the state despite several such attacks in the past. Instead, the Governor has abdicated his Constitutional role as Chief Security Officer which is principally to ensure the protection of lives and properties thus abandoning our people to the mercy of terrorists, bandits, and gunmen.
"We condemn how Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has abdicated his role to only resorting to mere social media condemnations through his CPS without corresponding actions to curb the constant violence and terrorism against the citizens of Kwara noting that none of the perpetrators of this heinous crimes have been brought to book despite empty press releases from Governor's CPS so far."
The PDP asked with concern where the Governor is spending the huge security votes coming to the state when security officials in the state are lacking in motivation and equipment to combat this menace of insecurity and called on Governor Abdulrahman in the interest of the state to immediately shop for experienced security experts that can help hidevisece strategies capable of bringing this ugly incidence to a halt.
"While commiserating with the Koro people for the tragic loss of the king, we pray for the safe return of those abducted and commend the gallant officers who are deployed to comb the forests in search of those hostages even in the face of poor motivation."
Signed,
Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara (Sholyments)
State Publicity Secretary,
Kwara PDP
