NANS National Announces Burial Programs Of It First President Comr. Danlad Sunday Oladele

National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS has announced the burial plans for it late pioneer president Comrade Danlad Sunday Oladele.

Recall few days ago, Sen. Dino Melaye addressed the public, on behalf of the Forum of Former NANS Leaders, the National Association of Nigerian Students, family, friends, and colleagues of Late Comrade Danlad Sunday Oladele on his passage.

According to the association burial coordinator Senator Dino Melaye; "As you all know, our revered leader passed on in the early hours on Monday, 9th August, 2021, in his hotel room after 41 years of non violent struggle to redress the injustice meted on him; thereby throwing the Nigerian students and civil rights movement into deep mourning."

"Today, we are here to inform you on his final passage rites. This information as shall be given emanated from agreements between the deceased family and the organizers of the burial program under the able coordination of Dist. Sen Dino Melaye whose efforts so far has been laudable."

"Since life is ephemeral, and gladly for the worthy legacies of service to humanity which the deceased led throughout his lifetime, the entire student/civil society movement have decided to give this leader a befitting burial as announced below:

20th October, 2021

The Central Planning Committee shall in his honour hold a National Discuss Lecture @ the NAF Conference Centre, Kado.
Time: 10:00am

21st October, 2021

The body of the deceased shall be Airlifted to Ibadan, Oyo State.
Oyo State Government/Family/NANS receives the body.

22nd October, 2021

Lying in state @ Yabatech College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.
NANS Senate session in honour of the deceased @ Yabatech College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos.
Body departs Federal Medical Centre, Abuja for Ibadan.
Service of Songs/ Tribute night @ The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

"As you very well know, in a rare act of courage, Com Danlad Sunday Oladele led others, regrouped them, inspired the writing of a new constitution and in 1980, founded the National Association of Nigerian Students. This effrontery will later earn him and most of his colleagues varying consequences such as expulsion, rustication and withholding of their certificates."

Comr. Oladele was born on 11th September 1949, upon completion of his Secondary School Education which he passed in flying colours, he thereafter proceeded to YABA College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos for his Tertiary education, again, passing exams successfully despite being a fiery student activist.

Being a dogged fighter with non violent strategies and methods, he continued for 41 years fighting against the injustice meted on him by the YABATECH management who withheld his certificate until his death. He secured several court orders mandating the management of YABATECH to release his certificate, non of which the school authority obeyed till his death.

In June 2021, the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, through its committee on Ethics and Privileges, in response to a petition addressed by him to the committee, invited him to a public hearing. He mobilized old colleagues within the student movement and the leadership of NANS to accompany him.

Two weeks after, the Senate Committee of National Assembly on Ethics and Privileges reinvited him for another hearing where he had the rare honor of confronting the management of YABATECH before the distinguished senators.

Seeing how long the injustice had persisted, the Senate mandated the management of YABATECH to release forthwith his certificate withheld for 41 years. With the intervention of the Senate Committee, the management of YABATECH agreed to present the departed leader with his certificate at their next convocation. Unfortunately, he died two weeks after.

Fearless, articulate, selfless, accommodating, peace-loving and assertive, the Lanlate, Ibarapa East Local Government, Oyo state born Danlad Sunday Oladele spent a larger part of his life mentoring young activists and teaching them non violent methods in fighting injustice. He was fair in his business dealings as well as generous to neighbours, comrades, classmates and friends.

"Being the pioneer NANS President, there is no greater honour that can be given than a national burial, befitting of his kind.

"Sen. Dino Melaye is effectively coordinating the arrangements in recognition of his place as an Icon of the oppressed. While condoling with family, friends, colleagues and the student movement in its entirety, we pray Almighty God forgives his sins and grant his soul eternal rest."

"Finally, we urge you, the irrepressible media and good spirited Nigerians to join us as we give this great Nigerian a befitting burial for his rare and commendable sacrifices to nationhood and humanity." Sen. Dino Melaye said.
