KWASU Students/Okada Riders' Clash: Peace Has Return To The School Community - Management

Sequel to the clash that erupted between non resident students of Kwara State University, Malete, and commercial motorcyclists (popularly known as Okada riders) on Sunday, 2nd May, 2021, the management is happy to inform the general public that relative peace has returned to the Malete community.

The fracas was consequent upon a 100 percent hike in transport fare by the Okada riders. The aggrieved students had protested the increment which led to the brawl.

The University management with the support of the Student Union, upon getting winds of the development liased with the relevant security agents and other prominent leaders in Malete to prevent the situation from escalating and forestall future occurrence of such violence.

It is a fact that the KWASU community and the indigenes of the town have been known to live peacefully over the years and deploy unprecedented traditional ways of resolving conflicts whenever there are looming skirmishes.

Therefore, the University Management appeals to KWASU students and Malete community to explore dialogue in the settlement of disputes thus allowing peace to reign.
