We Know Nothing About CACOVID And NEMA Palliatives In Kwara – CSOs
Our attention has been called to a lot of misinformation among the members of the public believing that we took part in the distribution of palliatives recently received by the Kwara State Government (KWSG) from the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
We wish to clarify as follow:
1. We only monitored the KWSG-funded COVID-19 palliatives around April/May 2020.
2. We neither participated in the distribution nor involved in the monitoring of the distribution of the items received by the KWSG from either CACOVID or NEMA.
3. The KWSG-funded COVID-19 palliatives that we monitored are entirely different from the CACOVID and NEMA palliatives recently looted in the Ilorin Cargo terminal and Agromall respectively, and they should not be interpreted as same.
4. We could not have been a part of any distribution of palliative exercise that wouldn’t be widely publicized as we did sometimes in April/May 2020.
5. During our monitoring of the KWSG-funded palliatives in April/May 2020, we were publishing the daily data of items released for distribution in each of the wards and LGAs that we monitored. We explored the use of Facebook, WhatsApp groups, and Twitter to regularly disseminate information on the daily inventory of items distributed in each ward. Aside from the food palliatives, we also gave a detailed analysis of how the twenty million naira (₦20,000,000) given to some LGAs were shared for beneficiaries.
6. We archived the summary of the data of the palliatives (food and money) given to most of these wards and LGAs on the website of ENetSuD (www.enetsud.org) for members of the public to refer to, with the aim of promoting transparency, accountability and record keeping. All these brought credibilities to the exercise that we monitored and the data are available for public reference.
7. As we were not invited to monitor the palliatives received from CACOVID and NEMA, we neither know anything about the distribution of the items to the supposed beneficiaries nor do we have any information on the number of items remaining in the looted stores.
8. The members of the public are kindly urged to be properly guided.
