Fire Guts Storey-Building in Kwara Community
A fire outbreak on Sunday morning gutted part of a storey building in Omoda, Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, with firefighters successfully preventing the blaze from spreading beyond a single room.

The incident occurred at about 10:30 a.m. at No. 6 Kutashi Compound, Omoda, involving a building comprising about eight bedroom flats. Only one room was affected before the fire was contained.
The Kwara State Fire Service said preliminary findings indicated that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials in the affected room.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after receiving the emergency call and were able to bring the situation under control, preventing what could have become a major structural loss to the building and adjoining properties in Ilorin West Local Government Area.
Residents of the area commended the swift response of the fire service, noting that the prompt intervention helped stop the flames at an early stage.
The Director of the service, CFS Alabi Muhammed, urged residents to always prioritise early distress calls during fire incidents. He warned that delays or attempts to extinguish fires without professional support often worsen damage.
He further advised the public to contact emergency responders immediately at the incipient stage of any fire outbreak, stressing that quick reporting remains critical to saving lives and property.
The fire service reaffirmed its commitment to rapid response and continuous public sensitisation on fire safety across Kwara State.
