Two Nabbed Shile Smuggling Drugs To Inmates in Kano

The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kano State Command, has arrested two suspects for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs to inmates at the Nomansland court complex in Kano.

The suspects are Usman Khalid, 25, and Bello Musa Ahmed, 24, both male and residents of the Tsamiya (Breget) area of Kano State.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Musbahu Kofar-Nassarawa, confirmed the arrests of the two suspects in a statement, made available to the press on Wednesday.

He said the suspects were apprehended by NCoS officers attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano, while trying to throw Indian hemp and other illicit substances to inmates at the court premises.

“The suspects were arrested by NCoS officials attached to the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Goron Dutse, Kano, while trying to throw Indian hemp to inmates at the court premises,” he said.

The command, according to the statement, warned the public against intermingling with inmates, especially during transportation to and from court, as it poses a serious security breach and is punishable by law.

“The NCoS is committed to rehabilitating and reforming inmates and will not tolerate attempts to undermine this mandate,” the statement said.

He said the Controller of Corrections, Kano State Command, Ado Inuwa, had directed the Legal Unit and Intelligence Unit to hand over the suspects and substances to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for investigation and prosecution.

Kofar-Nassarawa added that the command reiterated its commitment to maintaining maximum security and zero tolerance for drug-related activities within custodial facilities and court premises in the state and urges the public to cooperate with security agencies to sustain law and order.
