AGONY IN EPE: Woman Missing After Distress Call; Family Rejects Police ‘Accident’ Narrative

Nearly three months after the disappearance of Ms. Comfort Uwakwe, family members and community leaders are demanding answers from the police, rejecting claims that her disappearance was the result of a road accident.

Ms. Uwakwe, a native of Owalla Autonomous Community in Imo State and resident of Mafolokun-Oshodi, Lagos, was last heard from on October 25, 2025, while visiting a friend in Epe, Lagos State.

According to the woman’s sister, Comfort called a female friend, identified simply as Ifeoma, shortly after arriving at her destination. At 10:08 p.m., she placed a second call to the same friend distressed, saying she was “locked in a room and in danger.” Her phone went silent shortly afterward, and she has not been seen or heard from since.

The family reported her missing at Makinde Police Station, Oshodi on October 27, 2025, but were initially redirected to the Epe Police Station, where they were sent back to Makinde.

Investigations formally commenced at Makinde Police Station on October 28, 2025. On November 26, authorities arrested Ms. Uwakwe’s boyfriend, Olajide Akeushola, in Epe. He was subsequently transferred to the Lagos State Command (Special Squad) Ikeja, where he was questioned about the missing woman.

According to police sources and a statement from the suspect, Akeushola admitted to meeting with Ms. Uwakwe on the day she disappeared. He claimed the pair drank together, after which he locked her inside a hotel room. He later told police that she had gotten out and was involved in a fatal road accident on the Epe-Lagos highway, allegedly being crushed by a trailer.

Police reportedly visited an accident scene identified by the suspect and recovered a single human leg, which the suspect claimed was Ms. Uwakwe’s. Family members immediately rejected this identification, insisting the limb did not belong to her. The police have since called for an autopsy and DNA test, telling the family they must bear the cost of the forensic analysis.

The sequence of events and contradictory accounts have raised serious concerns among the Uwakwe family and the Owalla Town Development Union (Lagos branch). Among the unresolved questions:

1. Whose leg was found at the scene? 
2. If it was Ms. Uwakwe’s, where are the rest of her remains?
3. How could she have escaped a locked hotel room and reached the highway? 
4. What have hotel staff and security personnel reported about her visit? 
5. Why has the police seemingly focused on the accident narrative despite inconsistencies? 
6. Why would part of a supposed accident victim remain intact at a roadside location for several weeks? 

“These questions must be answered,” said Chiedozie Nzeh, President of the Owalla Town Development Union, Lagos branch. “There is a need for due diligence and thorough investigation before any conclusion is drawn.”
