VIDEO: Bandits Open Fire On Travellers In Kwara

A bus conveying members of the National Congress of Evangelization, under the Operation Good News outreach, came under attack on Friday evening along the Eruku–Obbo-Ile axis in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The passengers were reportedly traveling to Shagbe community in Ifelodun Local Government Area for an evangelical program when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants, believed to be bandits operating from the surrounding forests, ambushed the vehicle and opened fire from both sides of the road.

“The bandits opened fire without warning. Bullets hit the vehicle several times, and one of the passengers was struck in the arm,” a source familiar with the incident told reporters.

The driver was said to have acted swiftly, accelerating through the ambush and managing to escape before the attackers could halt the vehicle.

“If not for the driver’s quick thinking, the entire group could have been kidnapped or something worse could have happened,” the source added.

The injured passenger was later taken to a nearby cottage hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Residents within the Eruku–Yagba corridor have continued to express concern over the increasing rate of insecurity in the region. Communities along the Kwara-Kogi border have reportedly witnessed frequent incidents of shootings, kidnapping, and armed robbery in recent months.

As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have not issued an official statement regarding the latest attack.
