Mass Exodus Hits Kwara APC As Scores Defect To PDP In Kaiama
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has suffered another major setback as dozens of its members in Kaiama Local Government Area dumped the ruling party and joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The defectors, led by Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu, were drawn from various polling units across the local government. They were officially received into the PDP on Wednesday in a ceremony attended by key party stakeholders.
In a jointly signed resignation letter, the former APC members accused the administration of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of neglecting Kaiama and failing to fulfill campaign promises made during the 2019 elections.
They described the current administration’s approach as a “Monkey dey work, baboon dey chop” style of governance, alleging widespread marginalization, lack of transparency, and poor inclusiveness in both party and government activities.
Speaking during the defection ceremony, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu said the decision to abandon the APC was in the best interest of the people of Kaiama.
“There is no longer a future for the people of Kwara in the APC. We have chosen to align with the PDP, a party that represents inclusiveness, fairness, and genuine development,” Aliyu declared.
The defectors were warmly received by the immediate past State Youth Leader and current Director of Youth Mobilization, Hon. Mohammed Abdulmumeen; the Kaiama Local Government PDP Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Adamu Babangida; and the Local Government Secretary, Mohammed Abdulazeez.
Other PDP stakeholders present included Hon. Bukar Yusuf, Hajia Aminat Mohammed, and the PDP Women Leader in Kaiama Local Government.
The PDP leaders welcomed the new members and assured them of equal opportunities within the party, pledging to continue efforts aimed at repositioning the PDP as a credible alternative in Kwara State politics.
