Suspected Bandits Abduct Factory Owner In Kwara Community

Tension gripped the Gbugbu Community in the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State after armed men abducted the owner of Yashashi Pure Water Company in a daylight raid on Thursday.

Residents said the attack, which happened while people were going about their normal activities, has deepened fears that insecurity is fast spreading into the state.

“The gunshots scattered everywhere. People ran for safety; some even abandoned their shops,” one eyewitness recounted. “The bandits did not touch anyone else. They came only for the factory owner and took him away.”

The latest incident adds to growing anxiety in rural Kwara, where communities increasingly feel exposed as kidnapping and banditry spill over from neighbouring states in the North-Central region.

Locals say the attack highlights the fragile security situation, with many questioning how armed men could storm a community in daylight without immediate resistance. “If they can strike like this in the afternoon, then nobody is safe,” a resident lamented.

As of Friday morning, security agencies had yet to issue a formal response, while the whereabouts of the abducted factory owner remain unknown.

For many residents of Gbugbu, the incident is more than just a crime — it is a chilling reminder that the shadow of banditry is closing in on Kwara State.
