Less Than 24 Hours After Kale Kawu’s Homecoming, Kwara APC Announces Own Rally

The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a notification to its members and stakeholders for a major rally in Ilorin, the state capital.

The rally is scheduled for today, Saturday 13th September, 2025 at a popular Event centre, Arca Centre Event Arena.

The event, described as an endorsement rally for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is scheduled less than 24 hours after the widely-publicised homecoming of Engr. Bolakale Kawu, a former director at the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and the Dan-Iya of Ilorin Emirate.

Kawu, who recently returned to Ilorin after over three decades of service at the federal level, was received with fanfare on Thursday in a massive procession from the Babatunde Idiagbon International Airport to the palace of the Emir of Ilorin.

Multiple sources within the APC told Kwara Reporters that the party leadership met late into the night to fine-tune logistics for the rally. Documents and discussions sighted by this newspaper suggest that the party is proposing a mobilisation budget of over ₦50 million for the gathering.

Party insiders also admitted that the hurriedly-packaged rally is intended as a counter-measure to the show of strength demonstrated by the opposition during Kawu’s reception. The former REA director is widely rumoured to be considering a gubernatorial bid in 2027 on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While the PDP appears to be consolidating its strength in Kwara, the APC continues to grapple with internal rifts that have weakened its ranks. Senior party members privately concede that the divisions are complicating efforts to project cohesion ahead of the next election cycle.

Neither the state APC chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, nor the party’s publicity secretary responded to calls and messages from this newspaper seeking comments on the rally.
