EU-SDGN, IPC Engage Print And Online Media In Kwara
The meeting, held in Ilorin, also brought together the state executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and leading media practitioners from both print and digital platforms.
Executive Director of IPC, Mr. Lanre Arogundade, in his remarks, underscored the importance of the media in Nigeria’s democratic growth.
“The EU-SDGN project has six components, and the media is privileged to be at the heart of Component 4. This support is not just about training, but about building a sustainable media culture that promotes accountability, credible elections, and citizens’ participation,” he said.
He further stressed that the media must continue to uphold professionalism and resist pressures that could compromise public trust.
“As gatekeepers of information, journalists have a duty to report responsibly and ethically. Our democracy can only thrive when the media plays its watchdog role effectively,” Arogundade added.
The engagement session also featured an interactive segment, where participants shared experiences on the challenges confronting the media in the digital era, including misinformation, financial sustainability, and ethical dilemmas. Journalists also discussed practical solutions to strengthen professional standards and collaboration within the industry.
Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, pledging continued commitment to professionalism and ethical reporting.
The engagement forms part of the ongoing nationwide efforts by the IPC and its partners to build a stronger, more responsible, and more independent media landscape in Nigeria.
