Truck Crushes Pedestrian In Kwara


A commercial truck which suffered brake failure has crushed a pedestrian to death at the Offa Garage Roundabout in Ilorin, Kwara State.

The incident occurred around 8:00 am along the Ilorin-Ajase Ipo route.

According to sources, the crash involved a Mitsubishi Canter truck with registration number SMK 801 XT carrying gallons of palm oil which swerved into the popular AP filling station spilling its contents on the ground in the process.

The vehicle, painted blue and green, was said to have lost its break while in motion, resulting in the fatal incident.

While the truck driver identified as Nasiru escaped unhurt, two other males suffered injuries, it was gathered.

The impact of the incident uprooted one of the filing station pumps and damaged another in the process.

A source from the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) who confirmed the incident told our correspondent that although they were present at the scene of the incident, the Kwara State Road Maintenance Agency (KWARTMA), can officially respond.

PRO of KWARTMA, Gani Olawoye on Friday, confirmed the incident to Daily Trust, adding that five vehicles were also destroyed in the process.

“The deceased has been evacuated and the affected vehicles were taken to our office. The injured have been rushed to the hospital while the acting General Manager of the agency, Engr Michael Bamidele, have called for vigilance and for motorists and truck drivers to ensure their vehicles are in perfect condition.

“All the beggars around the area have also been told to vacate as a safety measure to avoid any future occurrence”, he added.
