Court Remanded Lady Who Stole Day-old Baby From Ekiti Hospital
The Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court has ordered that Ayeni Deborah, a 34-year-old woman, be remanded at the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Service for allegedly stealing a day-old baby.
The incident occurred at the Ado-Ekiti Local Government Health Centre in Oke-Iyinmi.
According to prosecutor Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, there is probable cause to remand the defendant, who is a suspect in a crime that has drawn significant public attention due to the prevalence of child stealing cases in the state.
The case was reported on August 4, 2025.
Inspector Oriyomi stated that the offence is punishable under Section 292 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and falls within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District. He confirmed that the duplicate case file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The defendant was represented in court by her lawyer, Barrister Stephen Ademuwagun.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted the application for remand and adjourned the case until September 12, for mention.
