TRANSFORMING EKITI: Honourable Awelewa's 9-Months of Unparalleled Progress


The 9-months administration of Honourable Awelewa Olawale Gabriel as the executive chairman of Ekiti Local Government Council has continued to witness remarkable achievements in infrastructure revolution, people’s welfare and security of lives and property across the council area.

The Awelewa's Infrastructure revolution across the ten wards of the council area has left an indelible mark in the record of performance in the council history.

Within 9-months of the coming on board of the administration, progressive turn around are being witnessed in Infrastructure and human capital development across the council area. 

The new administration has undertaken numerous infrastructural projects across all the 10 wards in the local government area with no exception in fulfilment of the promises made by Honourable Awelewa during his electioneering campaign tour of all the wards. 

Some of the projects which are based on community requests includes: the opening up of new 4.2km access road linking Epe-Opin to Owa-Atun community with the construction of a 7.2m × 9m span beam bridge on Anigba River.

Others are the grading of Jubilee Junction to Igbo-Ogo road and construction of a new 7.4m × 6.5m beam bridge on Odo-Abe River in Osi Community, construction of motorized borehole with 7,000 litres capacity water tank, reticulated with multiple fetching points at Udoji area of Osi, construction of a motorized borehole with 5,000 litres capacity water tank, reticulated with multiple fetching points at Awodo area also in Osi.

Also part of the infrastructural projects completed by Honourable Awelewa led administration are the restoration of electricity supply to Obbo-Aiyegunle and Etan communities after over three years of being in total darkness, with the installation of new 250kVA capacity transformer at Obbo-Aiyegunle, erection of new concrete electrical poles and transmission lines to replace the old and obsolete ones across the two communities, and the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the Obbo-Aiyegunle primary health care center.

Others are the construction of motorized borehole with 5,000 water tank capacity, reticulated with multiple fetching points at Bolounduro area of Koro, Mayegun Area of Eruku and Oke-Aafe Area, also in Eruku community.

In fulfilment of his electoral promise, he has also completed the reconstruction and refurbishment of a 10-rooms community Lodge with reticulated 3,000 litres capacity water supply and provision of beds and beddings at Isapa and a rehabilitation of a block of two classrooms building, with students furniture supplied at Community LGEA Primary School, Okesa, also in Isapa Ward.

The hard working council chairman didn't stop the infrastructure revolution there, he has also undertaken a rehabilitation of a block of two classrooms and teachers office at Anglican Comprehensive High School, Oke-Opin. 

So also is the complete construction of modenr market building consisting of 14 stalls at the Central market, Obbo-Ile in Obbo-Ile ward.

There is also a redesign and construction of a banquet hall at Council Secretariat complex, this is an ongoing project that is nearing completion at 93% rate. So also is the renovation and construction of toilet facilities at the three other principal personnel offices, with tiling of the offices the building verandah.
  
To make the council secretarial complex more conducive for optimum administrative output, Honourable Awelewa has undertaken the installation of solar energy powered electricity supply to all the offices and facilities in the Secretariat complex after over 4-years if the complex being in total darkness. Before the advent of Honourable Awelewa's administration, official documents requiring typing or printing would need to be taken to private business centres before such office work could be done. With the installation of solar energy powered electricity supply, administrative normalcy has now being restored to the Secretariat complex. 

The Awelewa's administration has also undertaken the drilling of motorized borehole inside the council Secretariat complex, which is being reticulated with a 5,000 litres capacity water tank, to serve as source of water supply for the convenience of the staff and visitors to the Secretariat complex. Before the feat, by Honourable Awelewa, staff and visitors to the Secretariat would need to go inside the nearby bushes to defecate, as there were no toilet or water supply to the complex. Aside, staff had to either come from home with their drinking water or stayed without access to water for drinking or other uses. 

It would be recalled that as part of the celebration of his first one hundred days in office, Honourable Awelewa had listed significant milestones achievement which included;
• Expansion and rehabilitation of the 7.5km Osi – Isare-Opin – Ikerin-Opin – Ajuba road.
• Redesign, construction and refurbishement of the Council's Legislative Building 
• Increment in workforce size and 50% increase in the salary of the local government vigilantes personnel, with improved conditions of service.

Other recent addition to the effort which has achieved the relative improvement in the security architecture around the council area was the donation of 100 motorcycles to security agencies by Honourable Awelewa led administration. The agencies which benefitted from the donation are the Nigerian Police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Directorate of Security Service, DSS, The Nigerian Army and the local vigilante service.

The administration has also successfully rehabilitated and re-equipped the abandoned security van and it's handed over to improve security surveillance around Obbo-Ile/Eruku/Koro axis.

• the council under the leadahip of Honourable Awelewa has also engaged special anti-kidnapping and anti-banditry squad to tackle security challenges in the council area.
  
• in his drive to encourage the staff and other workers under the salary payment of Ekiti Local Government Council, Honourable Awelewa has commenced the full Implementation and payment of N70,000 new minimum wage to the least graded workers on Grade Level 01.

The Awelewa's administration prioritized workers' welfare and social development, focusing on education, sports, and community development. In this regard, the administration has been sponsoring schools and students in the council area to participate in debates competition at the state level and has been giving support for educational initiatives.

In the aspect of revenue generation, Honourable Awelewa's proactive measures to block revenue leakages and enhance internal revenue generation has improved the Internally generated revenue base of the council area by more than 30%, thereby redefining Ekiti Local Government's IGR's status.
   
The council administration under Awelewa has also undertaken the reticulation of water supply to Isolo-Opin Primary Health Centre and refurbishment of solar-powered electricity plant at the facility.

These numerous infrastructural and human capital development achievements of Honourable Awelewa Olawale under a shirt time frame of 9-months which has led to him being nicknamed as 'Mr. Projects of Ekiti LGA' has demonstrated his commitment to improving infrastructure, security, education, and the overall welfare of Ekiti Local Government residents.
