Police Arrest Man Who Offered N1.5m For Release Of ‘Kidnapper’
Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) police command have arrested one Yahaya Saleh for attempting to secure the release of a suspected kidnapper who is under investigation.
CP Saka Ajao Adewale, FCT police commissioner, who disclosed this to newsmen on Wednesday, at the command, said Saleh attempted to bribe the police investigators handling the kidnap case with the sum of N1.5 million to secure the release of the suspect.
According to the CP, the arrest was made following a discreet operation by officers of the command’s Scorpion Squad, who had been handling the ongoing investigation into a kidnapping syndicate operating within FCT and its environs.
He said the 40-year-old approached the police investigators and allegedly offered the bribe as an inducement to compromise the case and unlawfully release one of the arrested suspects.
“And demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, the officers promptly declined the offer and initiated necessary legal procedures, leading to Saleh’s immediate arrest,” he said.
The police commissioner, who said an investigation is ongoing to arrest other actors of the syndicate, commended the officers for their conduct and assured the public that the command remains resolute in its stance against corruption and interference with justice.
