Gov. AbdulRahman Prioritizes Personal Luxury Over Lives of Kwarans" — Kwara PDP

...Says Governor Has Been Absent When His People Needed Him

The Kwara State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for budgeting N1.4bn for lawmakers exotic cars and spending over N20bn on Kwara hotel renovations, while allocating just N300m for security despite worsening security situation and dilapidated infrastructure in many parts of the state.

Speaking on Monday during a live appearance on “Ona Abayo Pelu PDP” (Way Forward with PDP), a weekly political program on Harmony FM anchored by Barrister Isaa Jetty, the State Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Mr. Olusegun Olusola Adewara, condemned the Governor’s 2025 budget proposal, which earmarked just N300 million for security, while allocating N1.4 billion for the purchase of luxury vehicles for members of the Kwara State House of Assembly.

According to him, Governor AbdulRazaq allocated a meager N300 million for security in the 2025 fiscal year — a period when communities across Kwara are grappling with rising cases of banditry, killings, and forced displacement — while at the same time budgeting a staggering N1.4 billion for the procurement of exotic vehicles for lawmakers.

“How can any serious leader commit over N1.4 billion to buying luxury cars for lawmakers and put only N300 million toward securing the lives and properties of over one million Kwarans? It is heartbreaking and shows how disconnected this administration has become,” Adewara stated.

Adewara also revealed that the sixteen local government chairmen, many of whom can no longer visit their own communities due to security threats, have each been gifted vehicles worth N65 million, even as villagers across Edu, Patigi, Kaiama, Baruten, Isin, Asa, Ekiti, Oke ero , Oyun, Ilorin south and Ifelodun now live in constant fear with many forced to flee their homes entirely.

“This same Governor has spent more than N20 billion renovating Kwara hotels, but our schools and hospitals are in such terrible shape that they are not even fit to keep animals. It is an insult to the suffering people of Kwara and a dangerous sign of a government that has lost touch with its basic responsibilities,” he said.

He called on Speaker Yakubu Danladi and members of the State House of Assembly to reject the N1.4 billion car whenever they are bought and instead press for the redirection of the funds toward tackling insecurity, rebuilding schools, and fixing hospitals.

“What value do N1.4 billion cars give our lawmakers when they cannot even drive them to their villages?” he queried.

On the Governor’s handling of security, Adewara accused AbdulRazaq of being an absentee leader, governing from Abuja while abandoning Kwarans to their fate.

“Kwarans are on their own. We are in the era of absentee leadership. The Governor or his Deputy has not visited affected families, nor has he addressed the state about the worsening insecurity. His silence is not just disturbing; it’s a loud confirmation that he has lost the moral compass to lead us,” he added.

The PDP reaffirmed its commitment to holding the government accountable and standing with the people of Kwara in demanding safety, dignity, and responsible governance.
