Police Arrest Suspected Kidnap Kingpin In Kwara
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnap kingpin, Yakubu Garba, in Ajase-Ipo, Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
His arrest was said to have followed credible intelligence received by the command.
A police team from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Criminal Investigation Department was deployed to track the suspect, leading to his arrest without resistance, it was gathered.
An AK-47 rifle and five rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition were reportedly recovered from him at the point of arrest.
Police sources said Garba had been on the command’s watchlist and was allegedly coordinating kidnapping operations across different locations within and outside the state.
Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the development during a radio programme monitored by our correspondent on Thursday.
According to the CP, the kingpin was helping the police with valuable information, adding that the investigation was still ongoing.
Ojo further disclosed that another kidnapping suspect was arrested during a stop-and-search by the operatives, with incriminating evidence found in his phone.
He said the police would not relent until the state is rid of criminals.
