Tax Holiday: Stop Deceiving Workers, Be Honest with the People for once - PDP to Gov Abdulrahman

The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is concerned about the increasing pattern of dishonesty, policy inconsistency, and deliberate misinformation being perpetrated by the Governor Abdulrazaq-led administration. The recent confusion over the so-called “tax holiday” for civil servants is yet another manifestation of the Governor’s tendency to deceive the good people of Kwara State, particularly our long-suffering workers.

Just yesterday, the government, through the Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Modibbo Kawu, announced another round of “three-month tax holiday” to cushion the hardship faced by workers. Today, the same government shamelessly disowns its own statement, claiming it was a “misrepresentation.”

In a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the party urged workers in the state not to see this as a mere error but a calculated attempt to manipulate their sentiments and give them false hope in Abdulrazaq administration.

We ask Governor Abdulrahman to tell Kwarans who authorized the Commissioner to announce tax holiday and why will the government go to such length to toy with the emotions of poor workers? This behavior confirms our long-held position that the Abdulrahman led-administration lacks integrity and respect for Kwarans.

How can a government announced Tax Holiday yesterday only to dismiss its own announcement as false within 24 hours? This is a wicked joke on workers already suffocating under unprecedented economic hardship and fraudulent minimum wage implementation

Kwara workers deserve fair wages, decent working conditions, and a government that will not play politics with their welfare. They do not deserve promotion without financial back ups and the Maximum Wayo being implemented as minimum wage where GL1 officers now earn almost same salalries with GL8

We wish to remind Kwarans that the same pattern of deception was employed in the controversial Kwara Hotel renovation. The project was initially awarded to Crystal Group at around N3.5billion, only to be re-awarded to Craneburg at a whopping N17.8 billion. As if that wasn't enough, an additional N5 billion was secretly padded into the contract, pumping the contract amount to over N24 billion — all for a renovation!

Thesame AA government had earlier assured Kwarans that the entire project would be financed via a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) and no public fund would be spent. Today, more than N13 billion of public funds have been pumped into the same hotel project without any communication to Kwarans. Is this not daylight robbery?

We call on the people of Kwara State — workers, youths, students, artisans, and professionals to challenge this government of lies, deception, and manipulations .Governor Abdulrazaq and his propaganda team have repeatedly shown that they cannot be trusted with the future of our dear state.

Signed:
Olusegun Olusola Adewara,
State Publicity Secretary,
Kwara PDP.
