Gunmen Kill Six In Ilesha Baruba Attack (Photos)
Tragedy struck the Ilesha Baruba community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday as six people were killed in a violent attack by unidentified gunmen.
The assailants, reportedly dressed in military-style uniforms, stormed the town around 9:30pm through the Ilorin road and opened fire on unsuspecting residents.
Eyewitnesses described the attack as sudden and terrifying, with the gunmen taking the community by surprise.
The identities and motives of the attackers remain unknown, raising concern among residents who are unsure whether the perpetrators were actual security personnel or impostors in disguise.
Among the victims were two Baruba men and four Fulani men, according to local sources.
The incident has thrown the town into mourning, with families of the deceased in deep grief and fear gripping the wider community.
“This is heartbreaking. We don’t feel safe anymore. They looked like soldiers. That’s what makes it even more frightening,” a resident said.
Community members are now calling on the government and security agencies to launch a thorough investigation into the attack and bring the perpetrators to justice.
They also demand increased security presence in the area to prevent further incidents.
“We need peace and protection. We cannot live in fear,” a community leader said.
All attempts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for confirmation of the incident were unsuccessful, as she did not respond to calls.
