Kwara NLC Issues 72-Hour Ultimatum Over Unpaid November Salaries

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kwara State chapter, has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the state government over the non-payment of November 2024 salaries to workers in the state.

 

In a letter addressed to the Governor of Kwara State, His Excellency Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, and signed by the NLC leadership, the Congress expressed concern that over 75% of workers in the state have yet to receive their November salaries. The NLC described the situation as unacceptable and urged the state government to act swiftly to prevent industrial unrest.

The NLC stated that if the salaries are not paid in full within 72 hours, the union would be compelled to declare a total shutdown of activities in the state starting Thursday, December 19, 2024. It further warned that the Congress would not accept the payment of December salaries without addressing the outstanding November salaries.

The union emphasized its commitment to maintaining industrial harmony but insisted that the welfare of workers must remain a priority. It appealed to the state government to resolve the issue promptly to avert a disruption of essential services across Kwara State.

The letter concluded by acknowledging the governor’s efforts in improving workers' welfare and expressed hope for immediate cooperation.
